Manchester Terrier PUPPIES
ABOUT
OUR PUPPIES
Puppies are very special to us. From
the moment of the well thought out conception, mom
and her unborn kids are treated with "TLC". Extra
nutrition, special accommodations which is a bedroom
in the house especially set up with a pen with lots
of bedding, treats, radio and TV. We don't want mom to
be bored or be lacking of any attention or needs during
her gestation period. Mom is exercised with playmates
that will be gentle with her but playful.
As mom progresses she is privy to nightly body, belly
or back rubs. Mom really appreciates these as her due date
nears. She will "move into" you or almost purrs
like a cat as you are rubbing her! Caution is taken to
know exactly or as close as possible to when she will be
having her babies. We never like to leave them alone to
give birth. Her surroundings are adjusted for the coming
event with very clean bedding and necessary birthing tools
for any emergencies that may arise. Our vet is very accommodating
to us and is available at all hours, no questions asked.
When birthing is done Mom is given a well deserved bath
and fresh bedding for her and the babies. She also gets
a special meal to help her produce all the milk she needs
for her babies. She continues getting supplementing feedings
while she is nursing, being careful she does not gain too
much weight or loses too much. The healthier the bitch
is, the healthier the babies will be.
When the little ones arrive, their weight is put on a
3 X 5 index card that has their birth date, sire/dam, time
of birth and their yarn/ribbon color.
Being able to identify each baby is very important not
only for us, but we have found that "new parents" appreciate
and enjoy the information too!
Yes, we give the card which has all the information from
birth including any health issues, wormings, vet visits,
and shot record to all new parents. We keep a photocopy
for our records and our database. Their weight is charted
every time we change their ribbon around their necks. It
seems they go hand in hand, when they gain enough weight
to have it charted it is time to give them a larger ribbon
around their neck.
At the age of 3 - 5 days their dew claws are removed.
If we have babies that are promised to new parents, we
welcome them at anytime they wish to come for a visit.
This is very good exposure for mom and the puppies. Sometimes
we have visitors every weekend from the time the babies
are born! We have a lot of fun doing this! We will even
take digital pictures and send/email them to the new parents
if need be!! We teach them a lot before they leave us.
In fact, at the young age of 3 weeks they start using a
pan with shavings in it to go potty! Saves on cleaning
time that is for sure. The transformation to going outside
is very easy for them by using this method!
And so starts new lives of someone's new family member
or somebody's show dog. We do much more preparing, socializing,
adapting and testing
(personality) to discuss here. We welcome any and all questions
or concerns you may have, so feel
free to inquire.
We are always glad to hear from families
and friends who may be interested in the Manchester Terrier,
to add to their family. Please feel free to call, get to
know us, and come see our beautiful babies - large and
small!
It is our duty as pet owners and show dog breeders to
breed only the those dogs which meet or exceed the American
Kennel Club Breed of Standard for the Manchester Terrier,
and to excel in the attempt to make The Manchester Terrier
breed, the best it can be. The
Canadian Manchester Terrier Club is a good site to learn more about our special breed
of dogs.
